Welling to draw their main sponsor from a hat
Tue 14th Dec 2010 | Football Sponsorship
Welling, currently 3rd place in the Blue Square Bet South, are building a reputation as a team who can pull rabbits from the hat. Just last week, the club was saved by its fans who rallied to find the £60,000 needed to prevent the club being wound-up by HM Revenue and Customs.
This week the team are bidding to put local business names in the hat in order to find a new Main sponsor by the end of the year.
Local businesses and fans are being invited to buy a ticket which enters them into a draw to win the privilege of seeing their company name/logo or even that of their wives or girlfriends, on the team’s shirts for the remaining 13 home games of the season.
The new Main Sponsor will be drawn at the Bank Holiday fixture with Bromley on 28 December. The new kits with the sponsor emblazoned, will be worn in the New Year’s Day clash with Dartford.
Owner of Welling United, Barrie Hobbins said; ‘Welling have been operating without a main sponsor this season as the recession has meant that businesses have been reluctant to part with the five figure sum that would normally be expected to secure the Main Sponsor package. We’re excited about offering the opportunity to fans and local businesses to become the Club’s Main Sponsor and can’t wait to see whose name is pulled out of the hat and what logo or message they’ll want us to print on the shirts. We’ve had fans who’ve said they’d just like to see ‘I love chips’ written on the shirts. We’ve also had a dance studio buy a ticket – they have a pink logo, so that will be interesting for the team come match day!’
Entrants will be restricted to a maximum of 240 entries, though there is no restriction on the number of tickets fans or local businesses can buy.
As a thank you for taking part in the draw, the club will publish details of all of the businesses that have purchased a ticket in the Match day Programme for the Bromley Fixture. The draw ticket will also entitle the holder to complimentary entry to a reserved seat for themselves and a guest in a designated area in the main stand for the match in order that they can witness the announcement of the winner.
Barrie Hobbins added; ‘the new sponsor will be given space on the club’s website and will receive 4 tickets for each match and of course, as the sponsor, they will have the use of the Executive Lounge!’
