Tottenham appoint former London 2012 Commercial Director
Wed 10th Nov 2010 | Football Club Management
London 2012’s director of commercial negotiations Charles Wijeratna has left his position to become Tottenham Hostspur Football Club’s new commercial director.
Wijeratna, who made a large contribution to sealing a significant amount of the London 2012 sponsorship targets, will now head Tottenham into a new era as the club looks to either redevelop its current stadium or relocate to the Olympic Park.
The London 2012 organising committee LOCOG hailed the success of its sponsorship sales strategy which was responsible for the large part in the organisation raising £1.4bn of the circa £2bn operating budget for the Games by the end of its latest financial year.
The 12 months to 31st March 2010 were successful in terms of generating revenue for the London 2012 Games - LOCOG raised £612m in the period, representing nearly 90% of the total domestic sponsorship budget target.
Wijeratna was part of the London 2012 bid company since it began in 2003, having previously worked for Sky TV, as a lawyer with Clifford Chance and as an investment banker with Kleinwort Benson.
Wijeratna will now head up Tottenham commercial department, and if the redevelopment of White Hart Lane goes ahead, will perhaps be responsible for sealing a naming rights partner to the 56,250-seater stadium.
