University Blind Team Claims National League Title
Fri 11th Jun 2010 | Club & Country Competitions
Worcester Blind Football Club (WBFC), who are based at the University of Worcester, have won the Blind Football National League title for the second time in three years.
The team, which largely consists of University students and staff member, came through a closely fought first half of the season, to ease their way towards a second title with a string of consistant results in the latter stages.
Club captian Keryn Seal – who lead the team to the title with 16 goals in 18 games – said “it’s been a hard season for us. We’ve won the league with consistency and strong defensive performances. We work hard for each other and have a good team spirit, but most importantly, we liketo go out to try and play a little football. we pass it more than most and so it’s particularly pleasing to see that you can play good football and still get the results”.
In the UK 22% of people with a disability have a visual impairment. Overall in the UK people with disabilities have an £80 billion contribution to the economy to make per annum. Often this money is misdirected or remains unused due the lack of qualified practitioners who assist people with disability. This is especially common place within disability sports, (Learning and Skills Council, 2005).
The Blind Football World Championships are being held in Hereford this August. For more information about the competition visit: www.blind2010.com
