Walsall FC Chief Executive, Roy Whalley, recently received the Walsall Lifelong Learning Alliance's (WLLA) Chair's Awards for his role in helping promote and develop adult earning across the Borough.
Roy was presented with the award at the WLLA's 12th annual awards ceremony, which was held at the Banks's Stadium on Wednesday, 17th March 2010.
The key remit of WLLA is to promote and develop adult earning across the Borough. The Chair's Award recognises the support of an individual or organisation in achieving this aim, and to the work of WLLA in general.
Through the WLLA's partnership with Walsall Football Club, the 'Walsall Bite Size' campaign has been a great success. As well as sponsoring the Family Stand at the Banks's Stadium, the Walsall Bite Size campaign, which focuses on providing training and learning opportunities for everyone within Walsall, has been embraced and promoted by the football club using a variety of channels.
"In developing the Walsall Bite Size campaign Walsall Lifelong Learning Alliance has been fortunate to rely upon the unwavering support of Roy, Walsall Football Club's Chief Executive and Commercial Director, in utilising the club as a springboard to get across the Walsall Bite Size message," said Walsall Lifelong Learning Alliance Chair Dr. Bob Crundwell.
"Nothing is ever too much trouble - from tickets and tours to developing new promotion opportunities for us and organising player appearances, our recipient lives and breathes Walsall.
"Roy believes fully in what we are all trying to achieve in providing training and learning opportunities for everyone within Walsall and to adults in particular. The Club itself has a robust and innovative Community Programme and an active Learning Centre working with our youngsters. To this end, and as recognition of the support given to WLLA, we were delighted to present Roy with The Chair's Award this year."
"I was delighted to receive the award on behalf of the football club," explained Roy. "It has been a real team effort and I would like to thank everybody - the Community Department, Saddlers Learning Centre, staff, players and the management team - for the active role we play in the local community."
WLLA Manager, Colin Robinson, added:
"The 12th Walsall Lifelong Learning Awards have once again been an outstanding success. Austin Healey proved to be a wonderful presenter and it was great that the evening culminated with this truly well deserved award to Roy and everybody at WFC, who continue to be a staunch supporter of the work WLLA does, specifically in relation to the Walsall Bite Size campaign."
