Gary Neville joins Line-up for Soccerex European Forum 2012
Wed 1st Feb 2012 | Football Industry Events
Soccerex are delighted to announce that former Manchester United and England footballer, Gary Neville, will be speaking at this year’s Soccerex European Forum, 28 – 29 March 2012, Manchester.
Praised by Sir Alex Ferguson as "the best English right-back of his generation," Gary has had one of the most successful careers of any English footballer, making 602 appearances for Manchester United, winning eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups and one European Cup, as well as playing 85 times for England. After announcing his retirement at the end of February 2011, Gary has taken a step into the media world; he joined Sky Sports at the start of the 2011-12 season, taking over as match analyst on Monday Night Football and he also writes a weekly full-pager in the sports section of the Sunday Times of Malta.
Gary will be speaking on the ‘For Better or for Worse – Football and the Media’ session. The panel will focus on this sometimes turbulent relationship, including the impact and influence the media have had on the growth of the football industry, how it has changed over the years and, in particular, how it stands today in light of new media forms like digital and social media. The session will be moderated by Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague; Guillem is a regular pundit on Sky Sports' show Revista de la Liga; he has also written for some of Britain's newspapers as well as several popular Spanish newspapers.
Soccerex CEO Duncan Revie commented: ‘The football/media ship has never been plain sailing – even going back to the years when my dad played, there were always clashes between the two. That said there is no doubt that without one you wouldn’t have the other. We are thrilled to have Gary and Guillem on this panel, their expertise in this area is second to none.’
The session on Football and the Media is part of a comprehensive conference line-up which will also include sessions on match fixing and betting, UEFA, player development, football’s new frontiers, ownership and sponsorship. In addition there will be a number of workshops running alongside studio one dedicated to emerging markets, stadia, leagues and rights holders.
In addition to the conference programme the European Forum will also comprise of a packed exhibition displaying all the latest products and services within the industry and a number of networking opportunities, formal and informal throughout the two days.
