188BET DERBY A SIGN OF GROWTH IN PREMIER LEAGUE APPEAL

Fri 12th Mar 2010 | Football Sponsorship

Saturday’s Lancashire derby between Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic will also be a commercial derby with both sides sporting the same sponsor on their shirts, leading sports betting company, 188BET.

The high profile presence of 188BET in the Barclays Premier League is indicative of the appeal of English football to its international betting audience.  The company is the principal sponsor of Bolton and Wigan as well as being the official betting partner of Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa.  Direct partnerships with one quarter of the Premier League’s 20 clubs as well as 188BET branding at numerous other grounds ensure instant recognition for its In-Play betting markets on a global scale.

“With the first fixture between Bolton and Wigan this season taking place on a Wednesday evening this is the first ever Saturday afternoon Premier League clash where both sides will sport the same sponsors,” said 188BET spokesman, Rob Hartnett.

“188BET is proud of all its Premier League associations and as the season reaches its climax, interest around the world is stronger than ever. With the 2010 FIFA World Cup also on the horizon it is a great time for the company to be seen as playing such an active role the world’s most popular League.

“We are working with all of our sponsored clubs to reach international football fans through a range of activity, including creating tournaments in China using Bolton and Wigan in which thousands of players have participated.

“The Wanderers and the Latics may not have the reputation of other Premier League clubs in downtown Manila or Mumbai yet but they are building up a base of fans that will dwarf the number of home based fans in years to come.”

“We estimate that more than £1 billion will be wagered In-Play on this summer’s World Cup.  In order to secure a place in the mind of bettors around the world, having a presence in the Premier League is a valuable opportunity for us.”

“A capacity crowd at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday will number 28,000 but highlights of the game will be seen on television and online around the world by more than one thousand times that number.”
