Arsenal renews deal with Citroën as Official Automotive Partner

Thu 18th Aug 2011 | Football Sponsorship

Arsenal Football Club has today, 18th August, announced it has renewed its relationship with Citroën as its Official Automotive Partner, in a three-year extension to the existing agreement.

Under the new, significantly expanded agreement, Citroën will have the ability to promote their association with Arsenal outside of the UK, to Arsenal’s large fanbase throughout Europe and China.  China is a key growth market for Citroën, where the brand will look to build upon the momentum from Arsenal’s recent successful Asian Tour.

As well as continuing to work closely with the Club on integrating Arsenal into its marketing, dealer, internal and PR activities, Citroën will also be providing a full fleet of vehicles for use by Arsenal staff on Club business.

Linda Jackson, Managing Director at Citroën UK said: “We are delighted to be strengthening our relationship with one of the most successful English football clubs, in what is an exciting time for us, having just launched the much-anticipated new DS4 model. Over the past three years, we have worked hard to bring alive our shared values of creativity, style and flair and we look forward to continuing this over the coming years.”

Vinai Venkatesham, Head of Global Partnerships at Arsenal Football Club commented: “We are delighted to announce that we are renewing our successful relationship with Citroën. Given the strength of our relationship, it was only natural that both parties wanted to extend and expand the partnership further.  It’s an exciting time to be working with Citroen as they continue to roll out their award winning DS range, and we look forward to developing a number of joint initiatives to run throughout Europe and China.

The French car-maker has been an active Club Partner since 2008 and a strong supporter of Arsenal’s charity initiatives in recent years, having joined forces with world-famous artist, Gerald Scarfe and three Arsenal first-team players in 2009, to design the ‘Ultimate Arsenal Fans Car’; a customised Citroën C4 that was eventually raffled off in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

Earlier this year, members of the Arsenal first-team squad including Wojciech Szczesny and Laurent Koscielny joined artist Ian Cook to design a unique life-size artwork using remote-controlled Citroën C4 cars as paintbrushes. The final completed piece of artwork depicting a goal celebration was eventually auctioned at the Club’s Annual Charity Ball for youth homelessness charity, Centrepoint, in May 2010.
