Leaders debate Football Finance at Chelsea FC
Mon 4th Jul 2011 | Football Industry Events
Greg Clarke, Chairman of the Football League, is joining David Bernstein, Chairman of the Football Association and FIFA ExCo Members, Dr Michel D’Hooghe and Jim Boyce, as a speaker at the 4th annual Leaders in Football at Chelsea FC on 5th and 6th October.
Former Chairman of Cable and Wireless, Clarke, started his role in March 2010 with a warning that football league clubs face major financial difficulties over the next 10 years with a number of mitigating factors including a reduced television deal and the global economic climate.
In a bid to address the £600m of collective debt accumulated across the League in 2009/10 and thereby preserve the 72 Club status, Clarke has lead the debate around a sustainable, self regulatory, football model. In a landmark decision hailed by Clarke as one which will change the landscape of football finances in England, Football League Clubs recently voted to adopt UEFA’s financial fair play system.
Clarke’s appearance at Leaders in Football this year will add gravitas to the debate around football finances which is gathering momentum as the introduction of UEFA’s financial fair play system approaches. More big names joining the debate will be announced in the coming weeks.
Leaders in Football takes place within the Leaders Sports Summit, a coming together of 5 leading conferences including Sponsorship, Digital Sport, Performance and the business of Horse Racing, over 5th and 6th October at Chelsea FC.
