Powerleague Appoints Nigel Hargreaves as Commercial Director
Thu 10th Mar 2011 | Marketing & PR
Powerleague, the UK’s leading five-a-side football centre operator, has appointed Nigel Hargreaves as its first Commercial Director; the appointment is with immediate effect.
Nigel joins Powerleague from The Small Sided Football Federation, which he founded in September 2009 to represent the collective interests of the major small sided football providers across the UK. Prior to that, Nigel spent 8 years at The Football Association (FA) as Head of Strategic Development.
Reporting to Sean Tracey, Chief Executive, Nigel’s appointment will further strengthen Powerleague’s commercial relationships as it actively seeks to attract blue chip sponsors and corporate events to its innovative and highly visible locations throughout the UK.
Nigel’s role will include developing new opportunities for people of all ages to play football at grassroots level, as part of Powerleague’s commitment to improving the health of the nation by encouraging an active lifestyle and supporting stronger communities.
Nigel will be based in the South-East but will operate across Powerleague sites nationwide.
Sean Tracey, Chief Executive of Powerleague, said: “Nigel brings with him a wealth of senior level experience across a number of diverse sectors including football development through his time spent at the FA and The Small Sided Football Federation.
“Having previously set up programmes to encourage people both young and old to lead healthy lifestyles by playing 5-a-side football, Nigel is ideally suited to the role at Powerleague which is committed to providing the highest quality and state-of-the-art facilities to achieve this.”
Nigel Hargreaves, Commercial Director of Powerleague, added: “This is an exciting time for Powerleague and I’m delighted to be joining the company at this busy stage in its development, as we announce a number of strategic partnerships and plan to accelerate the development of our estate in the UK, Ireland and Europe creating 100 new jobs in 2011 alone.
“We are seeking to develop new collaborations with partners across the public, private and voluntary sectors ensuring that our centres fit well with our programme of urban regeneration to make our centres the hub of their communities where local residents can gather to play football and socialise.”
