Supporters Direct - The Community Value of Football Clubs Research Project release interim report.
Substance is undertaking a year-long research project commissioned by Supporters Direct about the social and community ‘value’ of football clubs. This landmark piece of research runs from September 2008 to August 2009 and will investigate different ways in which we can value football clubs and explore the advantages of supporter ownership models for maximising the social value of clubs.
This research will:
- Investigate ways in which we might measure or account for the social and community ‘value’ of football clubs
- Identify evidence of the added value of alternative fan or community ownership structures might bring.
- Outline how the community roles of football clubs relate to wider regulatory issues.
- Use evidence generated to:
- Strengthen the case for supporter ownership
- Strengthen the case within Supporters Direct for trusts to deliver community benefits and to ‘make the next step’ in their development
- Provide best practice evidence, practitioner guides and solutions to barriers
