BBC Launch iPhone app for World Cup

Thu 18th Feb 2010 | IT & Technology

The BBC has announced it will launch an application on the iPhone that combines the BBC Sport website and 5Live radio ahead of the World Cup.

The free application will include live commentary and scores, and will allow fans to watch sports matches live on their phone.

BBC said the sports application will initially focus on football and will be released before the World Cup kicks off on 11th June.

The free application will also be available, at a later date, on BlackBerry and phones running Google's Android software.

BBC said it intends to update the application later in the year to include more content, including Formula 1.
It also announced that it will release a news app to be released in April that will offer content from the BBC News website including written stories, blogs as well as audio and video.
