Walsall FC announce profit for 5th consecutive year

Walsall Football Club have today announced a trading profit for the fifth consecutive year.

The club’s annual report which was published today revealed a profit of £5,000. for the year ending 31^st May 2010.

In his annual statement Chairman, Jeff Bonser, said:

“I believe that this represents a considerable achievement in what continues to be a very difficult financial climate.

“Previously I have applauded the contribution of our main sponsors and commercial partners.  It goes without saying then that once again I wish to place on record my appreciation to those organisations, in these difficult financial times, who have continued to support the Club.”

Further praise was reserved for the Walsall F.C. Community Programme which continues to be involved in over 30 schools in the area delivering physical education to many local youngsters, as well as providing school holiday soccer coaching courses, and the Club’s Learning Centre participation in ‘Playing for Success’ which has had a major impact, helping hundreds of local youngsters to improve their numeracy, literacy and IT skills through the medium of football.

The Chairman also took the opportunity to personally thank and pay tribute to Roy Whalley for his years of service to the Club in his role as Club Secretary and Chief Executive over the last 24 years.

“Roy is widely regarded within the game as one of the most knowledgeable and well respected club officials amongst Football League clubs,” he added. “In addition to his role as Club Secretary and Chief Executive in the last 24 years he has successfully revolutionised the Club’s commercial revenue streams and this will remain his remit under his continuing role as Commercial Director.  On many occasions over the years I am aware that he had numerous opportunities to move on to more lucrative positions at other Clubs but on each occasion his love for the Club he has supported since childhood kept him here. 

“I have no doubt that he could have gone on to be a very successful Chief Executive at Premiership level.  In years to come when the present day forms part of the proud history of Walsall Football Club, Roy’s contribution will always be a remembered as a lasting legacy of his loyalty, commitment and hard work.”

In closing, the Chairman gave his thanks to The Saddlers’ supporters.

“On behalf of everyone at Walsall Football Club I would like to say a big thank you to our supporters for their continued loyalty and commitment to the Club, and to assure them that all our efforts are focused on giving them a team and a Club to be proud of, and that we are working very hard towards achieving that goal.”
