England team to show their support for 'England 2018'
Tue 26th Oct 2010 | Marketing & PR
The England football team will show their support for the country's 2018 World Cup bid by having the words "England 2018" branded across their warm-up tops in their match against France next month according to Brand Republic.
In preparation for FIFA’s decision on who will host the World Cup in 2018 on December the 2nd, the England team will sport the training tops at the friendly international match on 17 November at Wembley.
Morrisons, BA, BT, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Umbro are the major sponsors of the bid, in which England are joint favourites with Russia. It’s expected that none of the sponsors’ branding will appear on the warm-up tops. Instead it will simply read "England 2018".
The host nation will be announced on 2 December in Zurich, where David Beckham and prime minister David Cameron are expected to in attendance to support the bid.
At previous England internationals, branding from the 2018 sponsors has appeared around the stadium, including on flags.
The 2018 campaign has featured a major public campaign, including a designated 2018 website and activity on social media outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter.
It is thought the 2018 bid has attracted more than two million supporters since its inception.
