Football Association to start chairman quest

The English Football Association board will start searching for a new permanent chairman. They will work out the details of what they are looking for and the board is keen on finding an independent figure. They are hoping to find someone within the “football family.”
The previous chairman Ian Triesman had been picked under appointment rules that needed a candidate to be free of any club or league ties for at least a year before taking up the job. Triesman had a tough tenure and now the preference is for someone who is a strong football insider, so to speak. This twelve month will be removed in October and then the search will start seriously.
Acting chairman Roger Burden, who has taken a break from his role as chairman of the Gloucester FA, is behind the rule changes that will allow a candidate from inside the football family. Tesco chairman Sir Terry Leahy and British Airways and Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton are being spoken as potential candidates from outside the football group. Ex-Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry, Manchester United chief executive David Gill are football insiders who are possible candidates.
There has been some criticism of the way Burden has handled his role as FA’s interim chairman and he has been dismissive of these.
