The FA's Head of Marketing Quits

Tue 13th Jul 2010 | Football Governance

Simon Freedman, Head of Marketing at The Football Association has revealed he is to quit.

Freedman’s resignation means The FA have now lost three senior executives in a matter of months after Ian Watmore quit as chief executive in March and Lord Triesman resigned from his position as chairman following allegations against him in the Mail on Sunday newspaper.

It has been revealed that Freedman has decided to leave the FA for O2, where he will become their head of sponsorship.

The former Coca-Cola marketer’s responsibilities will include looking after the telecom giants’ arena, rugby and football deals, and will involve working alongside teams such as the English national rugby team, and Premier League side Arsenal.

No replacement has yet been found for Freedman, but the group director of marketing and communications, Julian Eccles, has been put in temporary charge of the marketing room.
