Premier League CEO to meet Liverpool fans group.

Richard Scudamore, the chief executive of the Premier League, is expected to meet representatives from the Spirit Of Shankly (SOS) today according to the Times newspaper. The Liverpool supporters’ group is attempting to raise awareness of the plight of the club, who last week posted record annual losses, for the year ending July 2009, totalling £55 million.
SOS, which is committed to the removal of Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, the Liverpool co-owners, will use the audience with the Premier League’s most senior figure to outline the reasons why it feels that owners of football clubs in England’s top division need to be subject to a much greater level of scrutiny and regulation than they are at present.
In particular, SOS will question the validity of the “fit and proper person” test given that a number of proprietors have been able to pile huge levels of debt on to a number of Barclays Premier League clubs — most notably Liverpool, Manchester United and Portsmouth — after coming through the assessment, which many feel is not stringent enough.
“The Premier League have a duty to run the game properly, to regulate it and make sure it is protected,” James McKenna, the spokesman for SOS, said. “However, they don’t seem to take this duty seriously, allowing the debts at Liverpool to pile up. Sadly, we aren’t the only club this is happening to, it is happening to many others, and the fans are the ones left to fight for their clubs.
“We would like the Premier League to better protect clubs and put in place regulation that stops what has happened with Hicks and Gillett from happening all over again. It isn’t right that a club should pay for its owners to actually own them, and it isn’t proper for the future and the finances of a club to be put in jeopardy for the sake of business
