The FA Cup with Budweiser in China

Mon 28th Nov 2011 | Marketing & PR

The FA Cup with Budweiser is in Guangzhou this week, on display to thousands of fans in southern China’s largest city.

The FA Cup sponsors Budweiser have taken the world’s oldest and most famous domestic Cup to China, where millions of fanatical football fans follow the fortunes of their favourite English teams in the knockout competition where everyone has their day.

The trophy visit coincides with the week leading into the Second Round match weekend, with the Third Round FA Cup draw also set to take place next weekend at Wembley Stadium.

Making the draw and also joining The FA Cup with Budweiser in China is the legendary Italy and Chelsea hero Gianfranco Zola and China and Everton star Li Tie.

Speaking of the tour, Victoria Wing, Senior Marketing Manager at The FA, said: “The FA Cup with Budweiser has a huge global audience and is broadcast to millions of people in Asia and particularly China.

“To be able to take The FA Cup into these territories is fantastic and underlines the appeal of the competition. There is massive interest in the Cup coming to Guangzhou.”

The tour further backs Budweiser’s ambition to bring the world’s most prestigious cup competition closer to the fans through an exciting programme of activity, both in the UK and around the world.

Gianfranco Zola won The FA Cup twice as a player with Chelsea, having first tasted success in 1997 in a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough. His other victory was the 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup Final in 2000, the last to be played under the twin towers at the old Wembley Stadium.

Li Tie played in one of The FA Cup’s most memorable modern moments, as he and his Everton team of 2003 found themselves on the end of Shrewsbury’s giant-killing feat, losing to the Shrews 2-1 in the Third Round.

Gianfranco Zola and LI Tie will be joining The FA Cup with Budweiser whilst it features at the Zheng Jia Plaza, one of Guangzhou’s largest shopping malls, for five days, as well as joining the Cup as it makes its way around numerous other venues in the city.

The Third Round draw will take place live on ITV at 2.40pm (GMT) on Sunday, 4 December 2011, featuring exclusive footage of The FA Cup with Budweiser in China.

The FA signed a three year agreement in June with Lead Partner Budweiser, who are longstanding supporters of football around the world, with Budweiser having served as Official Beer of the FIFA World Cup™ for the last 25 years.
