Mon 21st Nov 2011 | Football Industry Events
Soccerex are pleased to announce the participation of Milton Seligman, Vice President of Corporate Relations for AmBev, the largest beer brewery in Latin America, on the panel about the legacy of the 2014 World Cup. The panel is one of the attractions of this year's convention, which will take place on November 26-30 in Rio de Janeiro.
Milton Seligman is an engineer, educated at the Federal University of Santa Maria in Rio Grande do Sul. A specialist in information technology, he worked in the electricity industry and for information technology companies. In the public sector he has held positions and duties in the governments of presidents José Sarney and Fernando Henrique Cardoso. In the Sarney Administration, he served as Assistant for Legislative Matters for the Ministry of Agriculture and as the Chief of Cabinet for the Minister of Science and Technology. In Fernando Henrique Cardoso's Administration, he served in turn as Executive Secretary and Minister of Justice, INCRA President, Executive Secretary of the Community Solidarity Program and Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Commerce. From 1991 to 1993 he was the Project Director for the non-governmental organization Inter Press Service, an international news agency headquartered in Italy.
Subsequently, he was Secretary-General of the NGO Ágora – Associação de Combate à Fome [Ágora- Association to Combat Hunger]. He has been at AmBev for eleven years, and currently holds the position of Vice-President for Corporate Relations and Company Communications.
Seligman will participate on the panel called “After the Final Whistle - Football's Social Legacy,” which will discuss the social impact on countries that host events such as the World Cup. As an official sponsor of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, the executive will discuss aspects of AmBev's social responsibility strategy, analyzing what the company has done in the past, and what they plan to do in association with the Cup.
“We are carrying out initiatives that generate real benefits for our football. We believe that with a better country, with progress in communities and clubs, Brazil will be ready to host the World Cup.” And AmBev is already working toward this. “We are undertaking actions that will definitively leave a legacy for this sport such as, for example, the Tapa no Campinho Project, which has already renovated more than 40 community playing fields, as well as “Brahma na Comunidade” [Brahma in the Community], which implements improvements in the areas of employability, community engagement and has football workshops, a community cinema and professional training workshops,” explained Seligman.
The executive emphasized that as Brazil will play host to the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, AmBev will be the host company for the world's best World Cup. “In addition to improvements to football clubs, we want the entire Brazilian community to be actively involved, so that we can make the dream of the World Cup and the Olympic Games possible.”
“AmBev's social responsibility efforts are exemplary. Its community programs have had a significant impact worldwide, helping millions of people have a better life. To have Milton as a participant on this panel is a great honour,” said Duncan Revie, Soccerex's CEO.
“Beyond the Final Whistle - Football's Social Legacy” will have one session only, which will analyse the effects of hosting a large sporting event. The “Events that Last a Lifetime - Infrastructure and Sustainability” panel will discuss how the new projects that are created and implemented can continue to benefit society after the initial sporting event. The panel on “Danny Jordaan's Winning Team” will discuss how host countries set up, organize and deliver World Cups in agreement with the community.
Other topics for discussion on the agenda of this year's conference will include subjects such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, stadiums, brands, agencies, performances, social media, business successes, and exclusive sessions with some of the biggest football stars from the past to the present.
In addition to a wide-ranging schedule of panels and workshops, the Soccerex Global Convention will also host exhibits and a series of events which will take place at the same time at the Copacabana Fort. A two-day friendly tournament will be also held at an arena set up on Copacabana Beach during the Football Festival.
