Shrewsbury Town gain business recognition

Thu 13th Oct 2011 | Marketing & PR

Shrewsbury Town Football Club has received a commercial accolade after being named in The Telegraph’s 1000 top growing medium sized companies in the UK.

The companies have collectively generated sales of some £50 billion pounds and show a remarkable amount of resilience during the worldwide recession.

Shrewsbury Town has been grouped under the Tourism/ Leisure category joined by only seven other football related companies including The FA, The Football League, Arsenal and Everton.

Anton Gunter, Commercial Manager for Shrewsbury Town said of the achievement;” This is truly an indication of what we are trying to do in some very difficult economic times. Football is no longer a 23 home game per season business and football clubs will need to be able to offer more in the future to survive.”

“The move from the Gay Meadow to the modern Greenhous Meadow was driven by the desire to ensure that the club’s future was secured and I am more than ever convinced that this has been achieved. Shrewsbury Town FC is a 365 day per year business with modern facilities which include match and non-match day hospitality, a highly acclaimed restaurant and modern conferencing facilities which includes more than 600 parking places.”

He added, “The hard work does not stop simply because we don’t have a home match, in fact we work harder to keep generating as much non match day income as possible.”

The club are currently in Npower League 2 missing out on automatic promotion to League 1 by only one point last season  and Mr Gunter believes that the continued success both on and off the pitch is a strong indication that the club is going in the right direction.
