Stockport Chairman explains club takeover situation

Stockport County FC have issued an official statement with regards to the proposed takeover of the Edgeley Park outfit.
The Hatters' chairman, Lord Peter Snape, has moved to clarify the current situation at the club in relation to a proposed takeover of the club by a consortium lead by Liverpool-based businessman Tony Evans.
The statement read: Like the other Directors and shareholders I share the disappointment felt by many of our supporters about our inability to complete an agreement regarding the future involvement of the SIML group in this football club and its parent company.
After a half time discussion last Saturday between Tony Evans and myself it was apparent that if Sunday's shareholders meeting had gone ahead as scheduled, Tony's proposals as they stood would have been rejected. Personally I like Tony Evans and I hope I can state in these notes without causing offence that proper negotiation , respecting the position and confidentiality of the other party is essential in these matters rather than a constant and partisan commentary via either twitter or the internet.
If Tony Evans has now decided to end negotiations between us then it is a matter of regret but the Board remains ready to listen to sensible proposals from him or any other would be investor.
So far as other consortia are concerned, the facts are as follows. Despite rumours to the contrary NO talks have taken place for some months between ourselves and the Conduit group. I understand that they were at the Town Hall last Friday when a representative of the shareholders was present as an observer. The Leader of the Council has been extremely supportive of Stockport County and we are confident that our interests will be protected in any future arrangements should they be made between those two parties. A further approach from a group who were involved in a previously unsuccessful attempt to take over the club has been rejected. Furthermore Stockport County will never be a 'feeder club' for anyone else.
