Manchester City and Key 103 team up for City Soundwave
Fri 9th Sep 2011 | Marketing & PR
Competition aimed at discovering and developing Manchester’s musical talent.
Following the huge success of CitySound last season, unsigned bands and artists from all over Greater Manchester are being given the opportunity of a lifetime to perform in front of thousands of people in City Square, the Blues purpose-built entertainment fan zone.
Fusing Manchester’s most successful exports, music and football, City SoundWave is in search of local bands to upload their material, along with a cover version of the fans’ favourite ‘Blue Moon’ by visiting www.mcfc.co.uk/citysoundwave.
Key 103, will select a top 10 list of the best bands that have uploaded tracks. Two bands will then be chosen by a panel of Key 103 and VIP MCFC judges and get to perform to Blues fans before each Premier League home match.
The competition, which is hosted by Lucy Horobin and Kid British, will officially be launched at City Square before the Wigan game. Last year’s winners, Coldside Generals and runner up Busker One will also be on hand performing their latest tracks.
Coldside Generals, said: “Now that we’ve won the competition, people who would never listen to you in a million years are actually listening now and want to get involved and help us. We’ve got all the contacts we would ever need through being in the competition.”
The first City SoundWave of the season will kick off before the City v Wolves match on 29th October when the first two chosen bands go head-to-head with their own song and cover of Blue Moon. The cover with the loudest cheer from the fans will be played in the stadium at half-time, to a crowd of up to 47, 000 people.
Nick Becker, Head of Event Production at Manchester City, said: “City knows only too well about Manchester’s vibrant music scene. You only need to look around in the stands to find artists like Oasis, Doves, Badly Drawn Boy and Mike Pickering to realise the raft of local talent which has come from this part of the North West over recent years.
“City SoundWave is the Club’s commitment to not only discover and support new musical talent, but also create a unique interactive experience for our fans on match days.”
The overall winner will be chosen by a select panel of industry experts from the five most popular bands across the season. The lucky winners will go on to perform at the Key 103’s Jingle Ball Live concert at the M.E.N arena on December 1st in front of 12,000 spectators.
