Wrexham City FC sell Racecourse Stadium

Fri 5th Aug 2011 | Football Stadiums & Facilities

Wrexham City Football Club yesterday announced that Glyndwr University has signed an agreement to purchase the Racecourse Stadium and Colliers Park Training Ground.

The deal is subject to completion and contract under the financial terms agreed by both parties.

Professor Michael Scott, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of Glyndwr University said:

"This purchase has been made to secure the future of the stadium and the training ground for Wrexham and north east Wales as a sports venue.

"It is the University's intention that by securing both facilities, Wrexham football club will be able to continue to use the facilities and that the same might also apply for the Crusaders Rugby League.

"In addition the University's intention is that the two acquisitions will be used by the University's students, for sports provision, and by the people of Wrexham and north east Wales.

"The purchase is made in the context of the University's continued development of higher education programmes related to sport, for the benefit of students and the wider community."

Wrexham Supporters’ Trust chief executive Richard Green said: "This is one of the important steps to football continuing at the Racecourse.

"We shall now be entering into detailed discussions with the university about arrangements for the football club to continue to go forward at the ground.

"Very soon afterwards, we will be able to put finalised proposals to the trust membership."
