Harrogate Town reveal new owner
Wed 22nd Jun 2011 | Clubs Ownership
Harrogate Town have announced that Bill Fotherby has handed control of Harrogate Town to businessman Irving Weaver.
Talking to local paper the Harrogate Advertiser, Bill Fotherby, who will remain as chairman said "I have taken the club as far as I can take it. Obviously for financial reasons I've had to pass it on. When I took over 11 years ago I had a dream of success, building the club and getting us into the Conference. But people in Harrogate have said to me 'How do you get success?' Well the answer is money.
"The best thing that I could do for the town and the club was to put it onto somebody who could take it that step further. I think that dream can be realised with Irving Weaver."
New owner, Irving Weaver, 62, who is the father of manager Simon Weaver, made his fortune building a successful business in the construction industry. He is currently chairman of Strata Homes and acquires control of Harrogate Town by virtue of Bill selling his stake in the club to the housing firm.
Commenting on his new position and vision for the club, Irving said that his first aim was to help the club support itself, "The important thing to note is that it's not ‘'new man throws money at it.'"
Also joining the board as a new director is Tad Nowakowski. Tad, 55, is a retired police officer and teacher and is also the father of current player Adam Nowakowski.
