Wirral Council extend sponsorship deal with Tranmere Rovers
Mon 6th Jun 2011 | Football Sponsorship
Tranmere Rovers have extended their shirt sponsorship deal with Wirral Council by one year.
Wirral Council became Rovers' shirt sponsor in the 1989-90 season, making it one of the longest running partnerships in football.
The deal extends beyond football, with Rovers fully involved in a wide range of community activities such as school visits, running ladies and disability football teams, working with looked after children and disadvantaged groups, carrying out health and education projects and helping local charities.
The Club has also run six Rovers Return To Work courses at Prenton Park, helping local unemployed 18-24 year olds back into the work place.
In the last year, the playing squad made approximately 130 appearances at local schools and more than 1,500 coaching sessions were carried out across Wirral. The Club also supported more than 50 charities and worthy causes.
Tranmere Chief Executive Mick Horton said: "We are delighted to continue our partnership with Wirral Council.
"We are ambassadors for the borough all over the country and are happy to be supported by the Council. Our relationship with them has gone from strength to strength in recent years and we look forward to continuing to work with them."
Cllr Steve Foulkes, Leader of Wirral Council added: "As a Council we have sponsored Tranmere Rovers since 1989, and the benefits have been immeasurable.
“As well as helping promote Wirral in a really positive way, players and club officials have gone into our schools, communities and sports centres, and helped us promote key initiatives across the Council to groups and people who might otherwise be hard to reach.
"In addition, we are able to take guests to key matches throughout the season, which helps to develop a relationship with businesses and potential investors. This outlines our commitment to working with the club to help develop those community links further."
