Micky Adams bid to become director at Port Vale

Mon 6th Jun 2011 | Clubs Ownership

Port Vale Football Club announced yesterday that manager Micky Adams has submitted his candidacy to become a Director of the club.

Legal formalities permitting, Adams is also expected to invest £50,000 of his own funds to purchase shares in Port Vale.

At present, the club is prohibited from issuing new shares, meaning Adams’ candidacy will be sponsored by the shares of former director, Stan Meigh.

The proposal will be put to all shareholders by means of a Written Resolution; which shareholders will receive the appropriate documentation for early this week.

Following the announcement, Micky Adams said: "This is a purely footballing decision, because, as it stands, the club does not have a full Board of Directors, and this is blocking the normal operation of the club, particularly our preparations for the new campaign.

"I am waiting to extend contracts for existing players and to sign new players, and this can't take place until the minimum number of Directors is in office.

"Preparation is everything in football and this makes it essential to get everything right, to be ready for what is sure to be a very challenging season.

"Our pre-season training, including the trip to America and Canada which has been arranged and sponsored for us by AGS, will be vital in how we start the new campaign and it's essential that we have the right personnel in place at the earliest opportunity.

"It will give the existing and new players the opportunity to train and play together and to bond as a team, which is essential as we move towards the new season.

"When I returned to Port Vale last month, I made no secret of the fact that I am desperate for the club to succeed, not in the least for our fans, who have always given me their full support.

"I believe that proposing myself as a Director is the best possible step for Port Vale Football Club as we look to move forward.

"I understand that the last few months have been difficult for everyone and am asking all of our supporters to put their differences aside, to support my candidacy for the Board and then to get behind the team in the coming season."
