Legendary World Cup winner Roger Hunt MBE will be making a guest appearance at this year’s brmb Grass Roots Football Show at the NEC in Birmingham.
Hunt, who played in England’s heroic 1966 World cup winning side, will be presenting prizes to the winners of the Football League’s Every Player Counts Awards, which is supported by The Football Pools.
The Every Player Counts project gives sporting opportunities to disabled adults aged 16+. Awards for the Unsung Hero and Player of the Year will be presented on Sunday 5th of June at Europe’s biggest grass roots football show.
Roger Hunt MBE, an ambassador for The Football Pools, said; “The Football League Trust Every Player Counts project is something I am very proud to be associated with.
“The community departments at clubs across the country are doing a fantastic job encouraging participation and the awards are recognition of all the hard work that every single one of them has put in this year.
“I am really looking forward to meeting all of the football family at the brmb Grass Roots Football Show and celebrating another fantastic year for the Every Player Counts project.”
The Football League Trust and The Football Pools will present awards based on nominations from the participating clubs.
The Unsung hero award will be presented to the person who has gone beyond the call of duty to help run the Every Player Counts project and 5 regional winners of the Player of the Year award will be announced before the overall National winner.
Last year, Mustafa Al Bayati from Northampton Football Club was the Every Player Counts National Unsung Hero who despite being in a wheelchair himself has dedicated twenty years of time and commitment to his club . Spencer Radley Martin, of Brighton and Hove Albion, was awarded the National Player of the Year award for his hours spent volunteering, competing in the senior team and supporting others.
Joanna Burns, Director of the brmb Grass Roots Football Show, commented; “We are honoured to be hosting The Football League Trust’s Every Player Counts award ceremony at this year’s brmb Grass Roots Football Show.
“It is a fantastic project that reaches out to over 14,000 participants each year and we are looking forward to meeting the dedicated award winners.”
The brmb Grass Roots Football Show 2011 is the biggest football event of its kind in Europe and takes place at the NEC in Birmingham between the 3rd and 5th of June.
