Hearts consider stadium redevelopment

Heart of Midlothian Football Club confirmed today that it has begun a joint study with City of Edinburgh Council looking at both the potential redevelopment of Tynecastle Stadium and also possible alternative stadium development options and locations on the west side of Edinburgh.
Hearts has commissioned consultants to investigate all potential options for both the redevelopment and the relocation of the club. Hearts has explored a number of options around the redevelopment of Tynecastle Stadium but it has become increasingly difficult, however, to overcome significant hurdles in relation to health and safety regulations and general restrictions on development potential.
The club also believes that the commercial viability of redevelopment of Tynecastle should be measured against all available relocation options in order to deliver the best long term on and off field solution for Hearts.
The club is a major institution in the city and Tynecastle Stadium contributes significantly to the local economy and community in Gorgie and Dalry. At the same time the club has to meet requirements to improve facilities to meet UEFA guidelines and realise its footballing ambitions.
The City of Edinburgh Council has a number of land and property assets around the stadium including the old Tynecastle High School site, nursery and adult training centre. All of these issues are being looked at as part of the study and the Council will continue to work closely with the club and local stakeholders.
Findings from the report will be brought back to the Council's Economic Development Committee along with recommendations on how to take things forward.
Hearts meanwhile has begun a comprehensive consultation exercise with supporters groups and all other key stakeholders to develop a proposal that will deliver the vision of the Board for the club's future.
