Season extension unlikely say Northern League officials

STL Northern League secretary Tony Golightly says that there is no chance of the season being extended.
The Northern League hasn’t had a full day of action since the middle of November because of the bad weather, which means that close to 200 games covering both divisions need to be re-arranged.
The scheduled end of the season is the last Saturday in April, and there appears to be little likelihood of the FA, who have set the end of the season date, agreeing to an extension to the season.
“The FA, through their leagues committee, have instructed us that we must finish by the end of April, so then they can discuss promotion and relegation to the next level up,” said Golightly. “We’ve had this situation in previous years, and so we’ll be doing what we’ve always done, and that is to give teams more midweek games.”
Fixture planning is possibly a little more complicated this time, because of the problems at Gillford Park and Morpeth. Gillford were due at the league management committee meeting on Thursday night to discuss their ongoing ground issues, up to last Saturday they still hadn’t played a home league game, while Morpeth have got problems with ground drainage.
It could mean some clubs playing three games a week in the closing weeks of the season, which might not go down too well with some clubs if they have had a proposed Saturday game postponed at Gillford Park, and have to return there in midweek.
