Tottenham Hotspur’s plans to take over the Olympic stadium have further infuriated Premier League and bidding rivals West Ham after it was reported by the Daily Mail they would demolish it and build a new stadium in its place.
Tottenham, who are struggling to get approval for the re-development of White Hart Lane made the bid to takeover the tenancy of the Olympic stadium as an alternative should they be unsuccessful in the gaining approval to re-develop their old ground.
West Ham hope to take tenancy of the £538million London 2012 venue in a joint bid with Newham Council and are said to be outraged at the proposals
Upgrades to the surrounding roads and transport infrastructure are proving problematic for Tottenham. With the improvements being made to the area around the Olympic stadium the club sees it as a viable alternative as costs have spiraled for the north London club to around £460m.
Spurs plan to sell of the land at White Hart Lane to property developers to help part-fund the cost of moving to the site of the Olympic stadium.
