Companies Court Winding-up list

Wed 10th Feb 2010 | Legal

Today is a day of reckoning for Portsmouth FC as they appear in court later this morning to face a winding up petition by HMRC over unpaid tax.

However, the south coast club are not the only one in court today. They will be joined by both Southend United FC and Cardiff City FC in what could be a very busy day for administartors.

The likelyhood of Portsmouth being wound up by the court today has been widely reported after a succession of owners at the club this season. The current owner has expressed his intentions to offload the club at the earliest opportunity in order to recoup the money he initially borrowed the previous owner to keep the club afloat. This would see Portsmouth FC change hands for the fifth time this season.

Cardiff City face a court hearing over tax arrears totalling around £2.7 million, Whilst Southend FC face action over a disputed £205,000 tax bill.

Each club will seek to avoid winding-up orders today wiith the hope of reaching some kind of settlement with HMRC.

The likelyhood is that three clubs face the very real prospect of administartion today following the collapse of Crystal Palace last week.
