Brazil is the champion of the Rio 2010 Homeless World Cup

Brazil has won the 8th Rio 2010 Homeless World Cup, the world-class international football tournament beating homelessness. Brazil beat Chile 6 goals to 0 in front of hundreds of spectators for one of the most eagerly anticipated Final in the history of the Homeless World Cup.

 Brazil was also successful in lifting the Women's Cup beating 7 goals to 3 to Mexico.

Over 300 street soccer matches have been played, by 55 national teams of homeless players participating on Copacabana Beach in the Rio 2010 Homeless World Cup this week.

Pupo Fernandes, Manager of the Male Brazilian Team says: "It is amazing to see the smile on their faces. They deserve to win for their dedication. They give all the hearts to it even with limited material resources. These boys show that Brazil is a real power in international football".

Aleixander Mathias, Brazil?s Women Team Manager, says: ?This is really great for all the players, it means a lot in their lives. It gives them more motivation and lots of changes for their future.?

Mel Young, President, Homeless World Cup said: ?Congratulations Brazil on becoming champions of the Homeless World Cup. We have seen some astounding football this year. It is the players and managers of the national teams that have made this a fantastic tournament.  Thank you. It is your spirit and determination that is changing the world. Your emerging leadership is destroying the stereotype and stigma of homelessness and creating real and lasting change around the world.?

Now the tournament is officially closed and the baton is handed to France for the Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup from 19 - 29 August 2011.

Beating homelessness through football, the Homeless World Cup is an annual world class, international football tournament inspiring 64 national grass roots football projects and over 30,000 homeless players a year to change their lives: over 70% change for the better. Homeless World Cup is supported by Nike, Vodafone Foundation, UEFA, global ambassador Eric Cantona, international footballers Didier Drogba and Rio Ferdinand.
