FIFA’s digital media team is celebrating the success of its web based platforms during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after revealing that the FIFA.com website attracted more than a quarter of a billion visits over the course of the tournament.
Football’s governing body had laid out it’s strategy to enhance the World Cup experience for fans worldwide through its website and official Twitter feeds, which were followed by more than 220,000 people.
FIFA.com had three times more unique users than in Germany in 2006, attracting 250million visits over the duration of the 31-day tournament, with approximately 150million unique users making seven billion page views.
Supporters engaged with each other by making more than one million comments on the website, which at its peak recorded one million hits per second on June 23, the day that England and the USA played their final Group C fixtures simultaneously.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ has witnessed a new level of digital engagement from fans across the globe.
