Southend owner insists club will not fall into administration

Southend United’s owner Ron Martin has assured fans that the club will not be forced into administration at the high court on Thursday when it faces a legal challenge over a six-figure tax debt.
Speaking to the Guardian Newspaper Martin insisted the case will not even come to court. "It will be discharged beforehand". We only learned of this [court] action on Monday, so we have not had long to pay it," he added, although the debt relates to unpaid PAYE taxes that were previously due.
HMRC have summoned Southend United to the high court for the second time in three months, with Sainsbury's bailing the club out on the previous occasion.
It is understood HMRC are pressing for the club to be put into administration due to the club's repeated failure to honour tax debts. It will be for the court registrar to decide whether to support the application and appoint a receiver to take over the club from Martin.
"We've now cut the budgets significantly and it will be more controllable in League Two," Martin said. "We are way past the worst. Paul Sturrock would not have joined if not."
