Bradford City FC to hold service to remember victims of the 1985 fire

On 11 May 1985, 25 years ago, over 11,000 fans packed into Valley Parade to witness Bradford City play Lincoln City and receive the Third Division Championship Trophy at the Bantams final home match of the season.
However it turned out to be the worst day in the football club's 107 year history and one that sent shockwaves around the world as fire engulfed the main stand roughly five minutes before half time.
Tragically, the fire disaster killed 56 supporters on that fateful day and left over 250 injured.
Today we remember those who perished when at 11.00am at Centenary Square in Bradford the annual service of remembrance will be held.
Led by the Lord Mayor's Asst Chaplain Rev Canon Paul Bilton and the Chaplain to Bradford City the Reverend Jimmy Hinton, the service will include prayers and the laying of wreaths at the memorial in the square.
The service will also include one minute's silence to allow those present to reflect on the tragic events of 25 years ago and pay their respects.
Valley Parade will hold its own brief service at 3:00pm in the evening, while the stadium will be open until 5:00pm for supporters to pay their respects and lay wreaths should they wish to do so.
