FIFA and Sony to launch first ever global 3D experience but snub England group games

Group games chosen to be shown in 3D will not include England. Fifa and Sony today announced that 25 World Cup 2010 matches will be recorded in 3D, one on each day of the tournament, from the first game between South Africa and Mexico to the final.
Ironically given the announcement was made in London, no England fixtures have been included.
Brits will be able to watch live matches in 3D. Fifa TV chief Niclas Ericson said 50 cinemas and "five other entertainment venues" will project the games onto big screens. The BBC and ITV will be broadcasting the matches in 2D in both standard definition and HD.
Ericson said he was "not contemplating any channel" broadcasting the 3D footage in the UK.
