Warrington Town open Centre of Excellence
Mon 22nd Aug 2011 | Football Stadiums & Facilities
Warrington Town FC have officially unveiled their new Football Centre of Excellence which include the latest state of the art 3G pitches.
Mayor of Warrington Cllr Mike Biggin was on hand to officially open the pitches which have been funded with the help of a £50,000 grant from landfill waste charity WREN.
The two new 1 star FIFA standard 3G surface 5-a-side pitches provide a realistic footballing experience and as well as providing excellent training facilities for the club and its junior sections, the pitches are available for community use.
WREN Grant Manager Richard Smith said: "WREN is committed to funding projects that make a significant difference to the local community. The all -weather pitches at Warrington Town FC are a brilliant example of a committed sports club opening up much needed facilities to the wider community.
“The pitches at Warrington Town FC are a first class facility and will provide real opportunities for everyone to get involved in sport, I hope they are well used for many years to come."
Installed by Dura Sport the soft surface provides a firm grip and allows for better ball control. It's made from a mixture of quartz sand and rubber granules which are layered into the pitch, which in turn provides effective protection and added shock absorption.
The 3G synthetic turf is the latest development in sports surfaces and gives a more natural ball bounce than the previous surface types and has playing characteristics much more like natural turf.
They have provided a base for the club's new football summer camps serving the local community with affordable child care.
