Europe’s football elite showcase stars of tomorrow in new international knockout competition.
Sixteen of Europe’s elite football clubs including Barcelona, Liverpool and Inter Milan have today confirmed their involvement in a challenging new six month international competition for Europe’s finest young football talent. The Nextgen Series will kick off this August and heralds the birth of an exciting new era in football.
Sanctioned by UEFA and the FA, the tournament has been established to assist Europe’s best under-19 players with the transition from promising youth player to established first team performer. The top two clubs from the four groups will progress to a knockout phase in January, 2012, to decide who will be crowned Nextgen Champion.
The tournament is the brainchild of Mark Warburton, an ex-professional footballer and previous Watford Academy Manager and Justin Andrews - a leading media professional and TV producer with many years’ experience working with football clubs around the world.
Commenting on the launch, Warburton said “The Nextgen Series will provide a cognitive learning environment for players to experience how best to cope with the pressures of top level football. Backroom staff including medical, conditioning as well as the coaches themselves - will benefit from the experience.”
Clubs confirmed include Barcelona, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Marseille, Sporting Lisbon, Wolfsburg, Molde, PSV, Celtic, FC Basel, Fenerbahce and Rosenborg.
