Planning approval granted for Marine FC stadium

Evo-Stik Premier League side Marine have announced that it has received planning approval from Sefton Council at last nights meeting of the Planning Committee held at Bootle town hall.

Marine chairman Paul Leary represented Marine at the meeting and presented the reasons and benefits of the plans to Councilors.

The approval enables Marine to build additional spectator facilities and install a new floodlight system at the Arriva Stadium. The stadium improvements will include the building of a snack kiosk and a 130 seat covered stand at the Crosender Road end of the ground and the installation of a new four corner floodlighting system.

The building work will take place in the summer of 2012 subject to funding and receipt of grants. This further development of the Arriva Stadium sees the continuation of a modernisation programme that started in 1992 and the improvements will provide a better balance in the distribution of spectator facilities at both ends of the stadium.

The new lighting system utilizes latest design and technology replacing the existing eight column system that is now over 30 years old.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said, “This really is great news for Marine. We have worked very hard on the designs to ensure compliance with legislation and to provide improvements especially with regard to privacy for the residents in Crosender Road closest to our stadium and to achieving a reduction of light overspill to adjoining properties.

“I would like to thank our architect Nick Hayes for his key part in securing this approval and to the support by many local residents to our plans. We are shortly to issue tenders to potential contractors and the next stage after that will be to apply for grant funding towards the project.

“These are really exciting times for Marine Football Club and this news comes as a massive boost as we continue with our aim for a promotion play-off place.

Paul Leary added, “Marine has recently launched a £100,000 building appeal towards the total cost of the improvements and if anyone would like to make a donation to the appeal then cheques should be made payable to “Marine FC Ground Appeal” and should be sent to Joint Hon. Treasurer, Mr RG Kewley, 53 Seafield Avenue, Crosby, Liverpool L23 OTG.”
