Bristol City Chairman to stand down at end of season

Steve Lansdown has announced he will be stepping down as Chairman at the end of this season (May 31st 2011).

The 58-year-old Bristolian is to be replaced by Colin Sexstone, with Guy Price taking on the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Steve said: "I have been Chairman for nearly nine years now and on the Board for fourteen. It is time I took a fresh approach to my involvement in Bristol City.

"This is partly down to the fact that I now live in Guernsey, where I have set up and manage my family office, which does not permit my attendance at the club in the manner befitting an active Chairman.
"I am delighted that Colin has accepted the role of Chairman. Colin has been with the club for ten years and shown his passion for it.

"He is an excellent ambassador for Bristol City and I am confident he will manage the Board expertly.

"Colin's experience will be invaluable to Guy Price, our new Chief Executive. In his two years with us Guy has shown enthusiasm in abundance, determination to succeed and the ability to lead others. I have never had any doubt that he will make a first class CEO and will take this club forward."

Colin says: "As a Bristolian, a Bedminster-boy, it's a remarkable honour. I'm proud to be given this chance. I look forward to it. It's a new challenge for me and one I relish.

"I will stay involved in negotiations with the new stadium project, as well as my role on the football side, but also managing the board on behalf of the shareholders."

He continued: "Steve Lansdown has overseen a remarkable period for the club, getting ourselves out of League One and pushing at the top of the Championship, almost reaching the top flight.

"We have fantastic plans to move to a new stadium and that's all been under Steve's watch, not forgetting the large financial support he has given the club."

Steve will no longer be part of the club's Board of Directors from May 31st 2011, but will remain the club's Controlling Shareholder. After this point Colin will take up his new position as Chairman, with Guy stepping up to CEO.

Steve continued: "As I step down from the role of Chairman of the Board of Bristol City Holdings, my ties to the football club remain unbreakable
"I remain committed, as the major shareholder, to supporting the club financially and am very excited at the prospect of working with the Board to achieve the vision of Bristol City playing at the highest level in the best possible surroundings.

"I have been extremely proud to have served as first a Director and subsequently as Chairman of this great club. It has not been an easy decision to relinquish these positions and you can rest assured it has not been taken lightly or quickly. However, I strongly believe this will benefit the club and ultimately allow it to move to being self sufficient."

The news comes on the day that the club announced four new appointments to the Board of Directors: Guy Price as CEO, Jon Lansdown and Ernie Arathoon as Executive and Non-executive Directors respectively, and Martin Mulligan as Finance Director.
