Sheffield Wednesday FC served winding up order

Thu 30th Sep 2010 | Football Club Administration

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club have been served with a winding-up order by Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs over an estimated £600,000 tax bill.

The club are due to appear in court on 17 November and is the third time in three months that the club has faced such an order,

Thc Owls were saved from administration earlier this month after reaching an agreement with the Co-operative bank over an unpaid tax bill. But HMRC is seeking £600,000 from the League One club.

Following a fans forum on Wednesday, it’s reported that chief executive Nick Parker claimed that an overseas oilfield company have offered £600,000 to pay off some of the club's current debt.

Wednesday were relegated from the Championship last season, with the club estimating the drop into League One has already cost them 20% of last year's income.
