The Football League Trust was awarded 'Business in the Community's' prestigious National Big Tick for their Bronze and Silver Accreditation system at Ewood Park on Thursday 24 June.
The Big Tick Award is the first level of award available to entrants of the national Awards for Excellence, the UK's most influential, independent, peer assessed corporate responsibility awards.
The Awards for Excellence reward businesses who demonstrate the positive impact they have had on society, and also the business benefits created by ensuring that being responsible is integral to their business model.
The Football League Trust's Bronze and Silver Accreditation system was introduced to raise standards across all 72 Football League clubs community programmes. The aim of the system was to initiate a move towards all Football League club programmes becoming separate charitable Trusts that are sustainable community hubs.
Once a clubs attains an accreditation they receive core funding as well as the essential credibility and foundations needed to form partnerships with community schemes to extend the core principles of The Trust to even more individuals.
Each club's Trust works within their local community to promote sports participation, health, education, environment, social inclusion and community cohesion.
Dave Edmundson, General Manager of The Football League Trust said: "We are delighted to receive this Big Tick. The Award recognises the role that Football League Clubs' community schemes undertake in the communities they serve and also the quality standards that The Football League Trust has implemented with the bronze and silver accreditation criteria.
Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of Business in the Community said: "I congratulate The Football League Trust on achieving their Big Tick. It has been a difficult 12 months for business, but this is a sign that companies are not losing their focus on making a positive impact on people and planet, and are prepared to lead by example.
"That's what Business in the Community's Awards for Excellence are all about - celebrating responsible business, the leadership that makes it happen, and the benefits to the business and society of doing so. Consumers need to see that businesses are proactive, visible and engaged on the big issues of the day, as The Football League Trust has demonstrated."
Now in their thirteenth year, they are the UK's leading awards for responsible business practice. BITC received 330 entries into the national Awards for Excellence.
Gavin Megaw, Director of External Affairs at The Football League said: "This is a fantastic award. It recognises the diligent manner in which The Football League Trust has conducted itself through its responsible business model.
"I commend the Trust on its great work with League clubs and the way it encourages them to be at the heart of their local communities."
