FIFA President Blatter Apologises to the FA

Wed 30th Jun 2010 | FIFA

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has apologized to the Football Association over England’s disallowed goal against Germany. Blatter also revealed that the rule-making body International Football Association Board (IFAB) will “re-open the file on goal-line technology”.

Discussions will take place at IFAB’s business meeting on July 21 and 22 in Cardiff following the incident during a FIFA World Cup round of 16 tie when an England goal against Germany was not given although the ball was well over the line.

However, Blatter kept the door shut to the introduction of a video replay to assist on offside and sending off decisions: “The only principle we are going to bring back for discussion is goal-line technology.”

The FIFA president also apologised to Mexico, which lost 3-1 to Argentina with the first goal scorer, Carlos Tevez, being clearly offside.
