Cardiff City FC announce new board members

Thu 27th May 2010 | Clubs Ownership

Following the EGM on May 27, the shareholders of Cardiff City Football Club (Holdings) Limited have agreed to recent proposals, including the following Board of Director appointments:

• Dato’ Chan Tien Ghee, Chairman
• Paul Guy, Non Executive Director
• U-Jiun Tan, Non Executive Director
• Michael Isaac, Non Executive Director

The new Directors join alongside existing non-executive board members Steve Borley and Alan Whiteley, while Peter Ridsdale, Alan Flitcroft and Keith Harris have now officially stepped down as Directors of the company. Also confirmed were the appointments of Gethin Jenkins and Doug Lee as CEO and Finance Director respectively.

Newly appointed Club Chairman Dato’ Chan Tien Ghee said:

“I would like to like to offer my thanks and sincere best wishes to Peter, Alan and Keith for what has been achieved during their tenure as they move on to new horizons. The new board takes over at an important milestone in the history of the club, with the facilities, infrastructure, a dedicated backroom staff and a team that has a great opportunity and belief to challenge for promotion.

“We are looking forward to working together, utilising the passion, belief and involvement of every existing and new supporter of Cardiff City to bring long term recognition and success on a local, national and international platform.”

Newly appointed CEO Gethin Jenkins added:

“It is our continuing aim to attain Premier League football for Cardiff City and the wider Cardiff community, while building a strong and sustainable business platform that can see the team and the club develop. In doing so we will look to engage fully with supporters, business partners and the community, while asking that they engage with us as we look to continue the progress of the club in recent years. It is an exciting time and an opportunity to forge new partnerships that will see the club stand on stable foundations for the future.”

Going into last weekend the level of enthusiasm for the club was clear as we broke season ticket records, coming close to 16,000 sold excluding corporate sales. This enthusiasm has been matched by increased commercial interest from businesses across South Wales. This was due to both our fantastic achievement of making the Championship Play-off Final and attaining our highest league finish since 1971, plus much welcomed news of new investment from Malaysia under the guidance of Dato’ Chan Tien Ghee.

The hard work will continue over the summer. The board will work closely with the football management team on building a squad that can again challenge for promotion. Strong steps are also already being undertaken from the management and staff to see the club structured on a strong footing behind the scenes, looking to reach Premier League standards based on long term stability.
