Premier League clubs could fall foul of UEFA's new Financial Fair Play ruling
Thu 27th May 2010 | UEFA
Three-quarters of the English Premier League clubs will fall foul of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules which are expected to be approved by UEFA’s executive committee today according to Soccerex Business.
According to 2008-09 season accounts, the most recent information to be published, 14 Premier League clubs made substantial losses that would prevent them from obtaining a license to play in Europe.
“If the regulations are introduced as reported, we envisage a difficult period of adjustment for our member clubs who play, or aspire to play, in European competitions,” said a Premier League spokesman.
Under the proposed regulation, owners will only be allowed to cover losses up to €45 million in total over the three years from 2012-13 and then €30 million over the following three seasons.
