Chelsea boss summoned to give evidence in Italian court

It’s been widely reported that Italian prosecutors have called Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti, to give evidence in the match-fixing trial against former Juventus managing director Luciano Moggi..
The Chelsea manager is expected to be summoned to court in Naples when proceedings resume on April 20.
Moggi, who was a central figure in the corruption case that involved several major Italian clubs which broke on the eve of the World Cup finals in 2006 is accused of match fixing
Tapped telephone conversations revealed him discussing the selection of referees for matches with the head of the refereeing commission. As a result of his transgressions Juventus were relegated and stripped of two Serie A titles and Moggi was banned from football for five years.
However, several other tops clubs were implicated in the case, including AC Milan, whom Ancelotti was managing at the time. Transcripts of wire-tapped phone conversations also implicated AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani in influencing referees. Milan were relegated for their part in the scandal, which was subsequently reduced on appeal to a 15 point deduction for the 2006/7 season, later reduced again to an 8 point deduction.
While there is no suggestion that Ancelotti was implicated in the scandal, there is a definite mood in Italian football that other clubs got off lightly compared to Juventus. As well as AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina had relegations rescinded to lesser punishments for their parts in the case.
