Peter Duffy named Chief Executive at Aldershot Town FC

Aldershot Town Football Club are pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Duffy as its new Chief Executive and member of the Board.

Peter will be reporting to the Chairman, John Leppard. In his new role Peter will be fully responsible for financial, commercial, operational and football disciplines. His primary challenge is to continue the development of the football club as a sustainable business.

Peter has an extensive international business background, most recently as a member of the Executive committee of BG Group, a global energy company and one of the world's best performing businesses over the past decade. During the past 12 months, Peter has been a consultant to various businesses, at the same time pursuing his passion for football. Most recently he has worked behind the scenes in support of and to learn from Derby County, who are widely recognised as one of the best run clubs in the Football League.

Chairman John Leppard said, "This is a major appointment for the club. We needed somebody to take control of operating the club, to take it forward and, importantly, implement fresh ideas. 'Peter has a wealth of business experience on a global basis and his enthusiasm and commitment to Aldershot Town has been noticeable during the past few months. Myself and the Directors are very much looking forward to working with him over the next few years and welcome him to the club."

Peter replaces Doug Wilson who resigned his position earlier this year and who is currently handing over responsibilities to Peter. Doug will remain associated with the club helping to deliver an exciting vision.

Expressing his appreciation to Doug, Mr Leppard continued, "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Doug for the excellent contribution that he has made over the past four years, especially with the transitional period the club made after being promoted to the Football League in 2008."

Upon joining the club Peter says, "It is critical that we establish the club as a sustainable business whose product is football and entertainment. I am particularly struck by the camaraderie that exists throughout the club at every level and amongst all the different stakeholder groups, especially the supporters and sponsors whose conscientiousness I very much respect and applaud.

‘There are a number of important initiatives underway, including Football in the Community and establishing our own Centre of Excellence to develop youth talent which will benefit from the passion and commitment many people will provide. I see my challenge here as being to bring about cohesion and prioritisation of an array of practical actions that need to be implemented. "It has been a delight to talk to the supporters and as a football fan myself I share their desire for an excellent match day experience.

‘To this end we will be working on improving communications and facilities around the stadium. Aldershot Town Football Club seems to me to have a unique culture about the place and it would be great to build on this and attract more families to join us as we grow. This is a challenge I invite all supporters to help me with. 'I am very excited about the present and the future prospects for the Club and thank the Board for their commitment and support.

‘I believe that I will be able to bring more structure, greater cohesion and to especially prioritise all the things that need to be achieved. It is important also to engage other businesses with our passion, mission and objectives. The football club can be pivotal in connecting different people and organisations for mutual benefit.

‘I see Aldershot Town being close to the local services too and I want to establish strong links with those organisations with similar mindsets as ours namely the Army, Emergency services, hospitals, schools and Rushmoor Borough Council. In return through its efforts within the community projects the club can give something back. "Aldershot Town Football Club has plenty of links with successful businesses. It should be regarded as a vehicle through which businesses can reward their customers and employees and also grow and establish new relationships."
