Peterborough go the extra mile for charity

Wed 5th Oct 2011 | Football Sponsorship

Peterborough United, in partnership with their sponsors Green Energy Parks, has announced the launch of the “Going the Extra Mile” competition for their fans.

The competition challenges fans to photograph themselves in their EnergyPark Peterborough shirts in tourist spots around the world to raise money for The Posh’s charities – the East Anglian Air Ambulance, the East Anglia Children’s Hospices and the Peterborough United Foundation.

The best photos received, and a league table of most miles travelled, will be published in each home match programme. Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to get involved by pledging donations to the competition pot, so that the charities can benefit as much as possible with all donations acknowledged in match programmes.

At the end of the season, the mileage of the people who have travelled the furthest in any of the four shirts (home, away, change, and goalkeeper) will be converted into cash and donated to the three charities.

The overall winner will see money donated to these great charities and will also win a pair of executive seats for the last Championship home game of the season, against Watford on the 21st April 2012.

Karen Newton, from East Anglia Children’s Hospices, one of the charities who will benefit, said: “The support of Peterborough United, and their fans allows us to carry out our vital work in helping children with life threatening diseases and provide support for their families.

“We are so grateful to the fans and hope this competition is a huge success.”

Chris Donaldson, Area Fundraising Manager for North Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk, East Anglian Air Ambulance commented: “We’re enormously grateful for the fundraising efforts of Green Energy Parks and of Peterborough United and their supporters.

“This competition will provide vital funds to sustain the life-saving work of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, which relies entirely on fund-raising and contributions to keep our two helicopters in the air and to provide medical equipment. We wish all those involved with “Going the Extra Mile” the very best of luck.”

Speaking about the competition, Chris Williams, Managing Director of Green Energy Parks said: “The Going the Extra Mile competition recognises the commitment of our fans, while raising funds for three great charities.

“We can’t wait to see how far the Peterborough United shirt travels.”
