Stockport County finds buyer for the club

Fri 5th Mar 2010 | Football Club Administration

In a statement from the club’s administrator, Leonard Curtis yesterday it was confirmed that a buyer for the club had been found.

“We can confirm that the administrators have agreed terms with the Melrose Consortium for the sale of the club. As with their previous offer however, the sale remains conditional upon them reaching agreement with the landlord, Cheshire Sports and the Football League. We understand that the next Football League board meeting is scheduled for 11th March.”

News of the sale has been welcomed after County entered administration last April with reported debts of around £300,000.

In the 10 months since the club entered administration more than 10 players have left the club, either permanently or on loan.

County have been operating under a transfer embargo and have also been limited to a squad of just 20 players this season.
