Rangers’ Facebook Page Reaches 200,000 Fans

Wed 24th Aug 2011 | IT & Technology

Rangers Football Club has topped the SPL with the champions' official Facebook page now reaching 200,000 Light Blues fans as it adds to its communications networks.

The total means Rangers enjoy the biggest backing of any Scottish team on Facebook. Since launching on July 11 the new page has been a huge hit with supporters from across the world. After only a month online the Rangers Facebook page has stormed in to the top ten UK clubs when it comes to followers.

A mixture of latest news, exclusive images, behind the scenes video and matchday discussion has been warmly received by fans on the social networking site.

Rangers also launched an official Twitter feed last week.

The inclusion of social media adds to the club’s successful in-house media operation that covers all platforms. The newly launched Rangers Monthly magazine has enjoyed fantastic sales in its first two months while the club's official TV station RangersTV.tv continues to break new ground.

Rangers also revealed over the weekend that have opened up discussions with the powerful Fox Soccer Channel in America which could lead to opportunities in the USA for the Glasgow club.

Interest in Rangers across the Atlantic has been massively boosted by the signing of national team captain Carlos Bocanegra and midfielder Alejandro Bedoya who have joined fellow countryman Mo Edu at Ibrox.

A partnership with the Fox Soccer Channel is in the pipeline for Rangers which would hugely increase the profile across the United States and beyond.

Chief Operating Officer Ali Russell commented: “We are delighted the Club's new Facebook page has reached 200,000 followers which is a phenomenal total since our launch just over four weeks ago and highlights the unwavering commitment and loyalty of our fanbase worldwide.

“Social media is leading the way in instant news and it is fantastic so many of our supporters can now keep up to date with all the latest news wherever they are not only on Facebook but also on our recently launched Twitter page which will expand the Rangers brand all over the world.

“The signings of American stars Carlos Bocanegra and Alejandro Bedoya is also boosting the club’s profile worldwide and thousands of American users are now visiting our official web site www.rangers.co.uk and our new Official Facebook page which is proving to be a runaway success.”
