Tottenham Hotspur continues Team India partnership at The Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup

Thu 28th Jul 2011 | Club & Country Competitions

Tottenham Hotspur has announced a renewed partnership with the Indian National Team at the forthcoming Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur’s involvement in the Homeless World Cup is a continuation of the Club’s relationship with Krida Vikas Sanstha Nagpur (KVSN) and their involvement in the management of Team India at previous Homeless World Cup football tournaments in Milan (2009) and Rio de Janeiro (2010).

The Homeless World Cup celebrates the year round work of its National Partners in an annual, international football tournament, which this year will be attended by 64 National Teams, including 16 in the Women’s Homeless World Cup. India will be represented by two teams (male and female) at the competition, both organised and managed by KVSN.

The partnership will see the Club financing the team’s involvement in the tournament.

Charlie Wijernatra, Tottenham Hotspur Executive Director said, “We are pleased to be continuing our support for the Indian National Team and the Homeless World Cup through our long-term partners KVSN and the Slum Soccer programme. The tournament has been hugely successful in helping to provide opportunities for homeless people from all over the world and we are delighted to be a part of that.”

Professor Vijay Barse, founder of KVSN added “This is fantastic news for us. The association with Tottenham Hotspur will also give us access to their sporting and commercial expertise, and bring inspiration not just to our World Cup team but to all those in India who are finding hope for the future through football.”

Since its conception KVSN has worked throughout India setting up the street soccer programme, Slum Soccer, in 2001 that aimed to provide sports facilities and competitions to engage and help homeless people living in poor conditions.

This year’s competition will take place on the Champs des Mars (Paris) from 21 to 28 August.
